Correct roof window installation is the foundation of a product that performs for decades. We provide installation documentation for all of the products we distribute, along with access to our network of trained and certified installers who work to manufacturer standards.

Before installing any roof window or related product, confirm the following:

• The roof pitch falls within the product’s specified range
• The correct flashing kit has been selected for the roof covering
• The structural opening has been prepared in line with the installation guide

6. Complete the interior lining and fit blinds
Finish the interior reveals to your specification and fit any blinds or accessories ordered with the window. Register the product for the guarantee if required.

Every product distributed by AfricanLux is backed by a manufacturer’s guarantee covering materials, performance, and workmanship. Below you’ll find the guarantee terms for VELUX products, along with general conditions and the claims process.

The full VELUX guarantee applies to products correctly installed by a VELUX-certified installer using the appropriate VELUX flashing system for the roof type. AfricanLux is the sole authorised VELUX distributor in Southern Africa, and purchasing through AfricanLux ensures your guarantee is supported in-region.

All guarantees apply to products purchased through AfricanLux or an authorised AfricanLux reseller and installed in line with the manufacturer’s published instructions.

• Products must be installed by a competent installer using the correct fixings, flashings, and accessories for the roof type and pitch
• Guarantees cover defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and weather conditions
• Damage caused by incorrect installation, unauthorised modification, or neglected maintenance is not covered
• Glass guarantees cover seal failure and manufacturing defects
• Breakage caused by impact is not covered unless laminated safety glass is specified
• Proof of purchase from AfricanLux or an authorised reseller is required for any claim
• Guarantee periods begin from the date of purchase shown on the original invoice

If you believe a product has developed a fault covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee, contact AfricanLux with:

• Proof of purchase
• The product name and reference number
• A description of the fault
• Photographs where applicable

Our team will assess your claim and liaise with the relevant manufacturer on your behalf. We aim to respond to guarantee claims within two business days.

Routine maintenance helps roof windows continue to perform well over time. A basic inspection and cleaning twice a year, ideally at the start and end of the rainy season, can help prevent common issues before they develop.

• Check the exterior frame and flashing for debris, moss, or blockages around the drainage channels and clear any build-up with a soft brush
• Inspect the rubber seals around the sash for cracking, hardening, or gaps
• Clean the glass with a non-abrasive glass cleaner and a soft cloth
• Do not use solvent-based cleaners
• Lubricate hinges and locking mechanisms with a dry silicone spray once a year
• Avoid oil-based lubricants
• Check that the window opens and closes smoothly and that the locking handle engages correctly

VELUX centre-pivot windows are designed to rotate 180° so the exterior glass can be cleaned from inside the room.

• Use the centre-pivot rotation function as instructed for your model
• Do not use abrasive pads, scrapers, or high-pressure water
• Clean the interior glass with a standard glass cloth and mild glass cleaner
• Self-cleaning VELUX INTEGRA glass coatings may reduce dirt adhesion, but periodic cleaning is still recommended

• VELUX timber frames are factory-treated with a protective lacquer
• In normal indoor conditions, no additional treatment is required
• In higher-humidity rooms, periodic inspection is recommended
• Inspect annually for moisture ingress, swelling, or peeling
• If the lacquer is worn or chipped, sand lightly and re-coat with a compatible water-based lacquer
• Do not use oil-based paints on factory-lacquered frames
• Ensure adequate ventilation in rooms with timber-framed windows

• Clean periodically with a mild household cleaner and a damp cloth
• Avoid solvent-based cleaners
• PVC frames do not require painting or sealing

• Dust blinds regularly using a dry cloth or a low-suction vacuum with a soft brush attachment
• Spot-clean fabric blinds with a damp cloth and mild detergent
• Do not immerse fabric blinds in water or machine wash them
• Check that blinds run smoothly in their guide channels
• For electric and solar blinds, check solar charge indicators periodically and ensure solar panels remain clean and unobstructed
