AfricanLux Hosts Hands-On VELUX Training to Elevate Building Standards

That’s why we recently hosted an immersive two-day VELUX training event at our newly built Africanlux warehouse in Cape Town. Designed to equip professionals with practical installation skills and technical insight, the event focused on high-performance daylighting systems and sustainable building solutions. Led by the expert VELUX technical team visiting from Europe, the training offered an in-depth look at natural light integration, ventilation strategies, and the full lifecycle of roof window installation – knowledge essential for professionals designing and delivering future-focussed buildings.
Practical Training for Building Professionals
Attendees included professionals working in residential and commercial construction. Through hands-on experience, they gained exposure to a wide range of VELUX solutions designed to improve thermal performance, indoor comfort, and daylight autonomy, key principles in modern, sustainable design.
Training modules included:
- Product overview and specification
- Pre-installation planning
- Roof window and flashing installation
- Motorised and solar-powered system setup
- Accessory integration (blinds, awnings, controls)
- Flat roof solutions
- Final checks and certification

To simulate real-world scenarios, training was carried out across three purpose-built stands:
Stand 1 – Solar-Powered System
GGL MK04 Solar Roof Window, BFX & EDW Flashing, DSL Solar Blind
Stand 2 – Manual & Top-Hung Windows
GPL PK06 Top-Hung Roof Window, Underfelt Collar, Flashing, and External Accessories
Stand 3 – Electric Window System
GGL MK08 Centre-Pivot Window, Motor & Control Integration (KMG + KUX), Blackout Blind
These sessions not only demonstrated technical proficiency but also highlighted how VELUX
products align with current architectural priorities, including energy efficiency, natural ventilation, and human-centric design.
